WINTER SPORTS GROUND CLOSURES
The Waimakariri District Council provides sports grounds for a diverse range of organised sporting codes throughout the district. The Council in association with recognised sport clubs and bodies in the district are dually responsible for the overall management of activity use on its sports grounds. Council post updated information on field availability of sportsgrounds in the district every Friday throughout the winter playing season.
Clubs are responsible to conduct weekly ground assessments to determine the playability of sports fields. The decision to open or close a field for play is final and will be made by Thursday of each week by a dedicated club representative. The evaluation criteria used to close a field is based on evident ground deterioration and/or closure due to adverse forecasted weather conditions that will be detrimental to player's safety and wear capacity of a field.
Clubs and regular users of Council's sporting grounds are reminded that if they allow the playing of games, or allow club training, on grounds Council has been notified of as CLOSED, and an accident occurs because of the state of the ground, Council will hold the club/user totally responsible for any such incident. Council has the full right to close any grounds over and above the clubs decision if it is deemed unsafe or the ground conditions are deemed to need further repairs.
